Frederick Miller

Frederick L. Miller, 89, of Waukon died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 25 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon handled arrangements.

Frederick Louis Miller was born April 9, 1927 in Postville, the son of Earl and Marion (Stock) Miller. He was baptized at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Luana. Fred attended Cherry Valley Franklin #7 country school and graduated from Luana High School in 1945.

June 9, 1948, he married Marjorie Bareis at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville. They farmed on his parents’ farm in Franklin Township for ten years before moving in 1958 to his grandparents’ farm in Jefferson Township, where they raised dairy cows, hogs and grain.

Fred was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Farm Bureau - serving as president for five years and two terms, the Izaac Walton League, Toastmasters, and was director of the Interstate Livestock Producers Association for three years. Fred was an active and avid supporter of the Republican Party. He had his private pilot license and was a member of Allamakee Flyers. Fred enjoyed hunting and shooting.

Survivors include his three sons: Mark Miller, John (Leslie) Miller and Joel (Shawna) Miller, all of Waukon; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kermit (Lana) Miller of Postville; and a sister-in-law, Donna Miller of Clermont. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie, who died in 1988; a daughter, Ruth Palmer; an infant grandson, Allen Miller; two sisters, Marilyn Clark and Ruth Quandahl; and a brother, Roger Miller.

Honorary casketbearers were Allen Goeke, Zeb Muehling, Greg Palmer, and Fred's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were John, Ross and Eric Palmer, Matt Behrend, Joseph Miller, Lee Ellickson, Justin Johnson and Zac Christensen.
