Joyce Ann Haas was born October 25, 1948 in Storm Lake, the daughter of Francis Charles and Marjorie Ann (Stoulil) Schott. She attended school in Cylinder until the fifth grade when she and her family moved to Waukon. In 1967, Joyce graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School in Waukon.

December 27, 1969, she married Douglas Haas at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Waukon. From her home, Joyce ran a daycare and looked after hundreds of kids over the years. She considered the daycare kids her extended family and loved her job.

Joyce was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and decorating her house with different themes. Joyce liked traveling and loved having a margarita and putting her toes in the sand at the beach; she and Doug also went camping on the weekends. When she and Doug ran a bar in Waukon, they made friends with “the fishermen” from Le Mars, and for more than the past 40 years would get together with them and their families. Mostly, she loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Doug, of Waukon; her children: Scott (Julianna) Haas of Des Moines, Cory (Amy) Haas of Atlanta, GA and TJ (Crystal) Haas of Hastings, MN; seven grandchildren: Halle, Colton, Connor, Devon, Hunter, Gage and Tanner; and three sisters: Dee (Craig “Gravy”) Ford of Harpers Ferry, Marjean Fahey of Waukon and Karen (Bob) Wagner of Belvidere, IL. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Fran and Marge; and her brother, Larry “Butch” Schott.

Casketbearers are Wade Deines, Mark Kirkeby, Casey Larson, Wade Good, Jeff Colby and Eric Enyart.
