Waukon golf boys open season with home loss to Charles City

The Waukon boys golf team was able to begin its 2017 season, but only able to get in one of two scheduled meets this past week. That one meet was a home date with Charles City Tuesday, April 4, where the Indians fell by a 199-168 final result to the visiting Comets. The golf Tribe also had a Monday, April 3 home date scheduled with South Winneshiek postponed to April 21.
Against Charles City, the Indians were led by sophomore Michael Headington and his round of 44, with freshman Logan Houg next in line for the Tribe with his round of 48. Senior Logan Sullivan turned in a round of 50 and junior Jess Kloke wrapped up the Indian team scoring with his round of 57.
Freshman Ryan Hanson also turned in a round under 60 with a 58, with freshman Zechariah Brink and sophomore Carson Jones shooting in the 60s with respective rounds of 64 and 66. Also turning in rounds for the Indians were senior Aaron Sherman and his 72, sophomore Robbie Drew with a 75, sophomore Sean Liddiard and his 80, and freshman Brady Beyer with his 86.
“Michael Headington did well, and shot a 44,” Waukon boys golf coach Tharin Benson said. “We’re hoping to eliminate big scores next go-round, and be more consistent around the greens.”
The Indians were next scheduled to play at Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, April 10 before hosting MFL/MarMac Tuesday, April 11. A busy week follows for the golf Tribe the next week, beginning with back-to-back meets, Monday, April 17 at Decorah and Tuesday, April 18 at home against Caledonia, MN, before making up that April 3 postponement at home with South Winneshiek Friday, April 21.
