Waukon RAGBRAI reveals town logo, theme and July 28 entertainment

Waukon RAGBRAI leaders unveiled their selection for the town logo and theme in conjunction with RAGBRAI's July 28 overnight visit to Waukon and Allamakee County at the April 18 town meeting held at Iron Ridge Church in Waukon. Out of more than 60 submitted entries, the theme of "A Week Behind Handlebars" was chosen by involved committee leaders from an anonymous submission, along with the logo pictured above that plays off the Monopoly® board game.
"The theme 'A Week Behind Handlebars' is a nod to Waukon being the last overnight stop and the week bicyclists have spent riding. The board game aspect is just some fun and whimsy. There will be a lot of creative things done with that for decoration and community involvement," explained Waukon RAGBRAI Committee leaders in regard to the selection.
Along with the unveiling of the theme and logo, Waukon RAGBRAI also revealed its selection for entertainment on the main stage in the downtown area for that July 28 overnight visit. "Hairball" is a hard-rock tribute band based out of Minnesota that has been performing since early in the new millennium. In addition to covering the music of such recognizable acts as Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey and Aerosmith, among many others, "Hairball" shows also include a full visual component, including pyrotechnics and other theatrical elements, making them a favorite of RAGBRAI participants.
"Hairball" is set to hit the stage, which will be located at the downtown intersection of Main Street and Spring Avenue, following the 7 p.m. opening act of "El Caminos," a band featuring several Waukon natives. Further details about the July 28 entertainment will be published when finalized.
