Waukon girls track team takes second place at Crestwood, fourth at NFV Invitational

The Waukon girls track team competed in a pair of larger meets this past week, as the regular season begins to wind down. The Lady Indians battled to a second-place team finish in the 10-team field at the Crestwood Invitational Tuesday, April 18 before coming in fourth at the eight-team North Fayette Valley Invitational Friday, April 21.

The Indians were next scheduled to host their own Indian Relays home invitational Tuesday, April 25 before competing at the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 27. The track Tribe will then compete at the Edgewood-Colesburg Invitational Monday, May 1 before battling for conference supremacy at the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet to be hosted by Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, May 4. The Lady Indians will then prepare for their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet to be held at North Fayette Valley in West Union Thursday, May 11, details of which can be found in a shaded box on this week’s Sports pages in the print edition and e-edition.

Crestwood Invitational ...
The Waukon track girls put forth a strong showing at the Crestwood Invitational in Cresco Tuesday, April 18, but not strong enough to wrestle away the team championship away from the host Cadets. The Indians managed eight finishes within the top two of their respective events, tallying 107 team points to finish as the meet runner-up.

NFV Invitational ...
The track and field Lady Indians competed in a rare Friday night meet at the sizable co-ed North Fayette Valley Invitational Friday, April 21. The track Tribe posted eight finishes within the top three of their respective events, with half of those being third-place finishes and the other half being split between runner-up and championship efforts to tally 101.5 team points and end up fourth in the eight-team final standings.
