Waukon RAGBRAI seeking volunteers to host riders in homes or yards overnight

The Waukon RAGBRAI Housing Committee is seeking area individuals who are willing to open up their homes, yards or driveways to riders or support crews for RAGBRAI's overnight visit to Waukon July 28 of this year. Those interested in providing such hospitality for that July 28 overnight stay are invited to fill out the form available at www.ragbraiwaukon.com under the "Get Involved" tab at the top of that home page and then under the "Housing" link on that drop down menu. A click on the PDF or "Want to Become A Host?" link will take interested individuals to the form they can fill out with their available selection of hosting options. The completed form can then be saved and emailed to ragbraihousingwaukon2017@gmail.com or printed and dropped off at Main Feature Theater on Main Street in Waukon daily during business hours of 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Those with further questions can also send them to that ragbraihousingwaukon2017@gmail.com email address.

Waukon RAGBRAI to host June 1 meeting for all businesses, organizations planning to serve food

The Waukon RAGBRAI Committee will be holding another informational meeting for any local business that will be serving  food in Waukon during RAGBRAI's visit to the community in late July of this year. The meeting will be held Thursday, June 1 at 2:30 p.m. at the City Club meeting room on Main Street in Waukon.

Waukon RAGBRAI to host Kid's Art Contest; Workshops set for May 31 and June 2

The Waukon RAGBRAI Kid’s Art Contest is being held this summer for local Kindergarten through sixth grade students in conjunction with RAGBRAI's July 28 overnight visit to Waukon. The contest is sponsored by Josh and Val Miller of J.L. Miller Cabinet Makers and Steel Cow in Waukon and offers Kindgarten through sixth grade students the opportunity to use their creativity to make original artwork that reflects their impressions of RAGBRAI, the world’s largest recreational bike tour.
One child will be chosen as the overall winner to compete for a $350 prize in the Statewide RAGBRAI Art Contest. A winner will also be chosen to receive a prize of art supplies from each of the following local age groups: Kindergarten-First Grade, Second-Third Grades, and Fourth-Sixth Grades.

Contest entries should be no larger than 11"x14" in size and must be two-dimensional. Any art medium (paint, chalk, crayon, marker, etc.) is welcome to be used. The design should prominently portray the artist’s impressions of RAGBRAI and the Waukon RAGBRAI theme. Completed projects must be returned to the Waukon Chamber of Commerce office by Friday, June 9. Winners will be announced by June 16. All entries will be displayed as part of the decorations for the Waukon RAGBRAI overnight visit scheduled for July 28.

In conjunction with the art contest, a pair of art workshops are also being held at the Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Center in Waukon Wednesday, May 31 and Friday, June 2. Local art teacher Lori Ross will lead guided work time for contest entries with art supplies provided. Those May 31 and June 2 workshops will each be split into the following time schedules, according to age group: Kindergarten-First Graders will meet from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.; Second-Third Graders will meet from 12:30-1:30 p.m.; and Fourth-Sixth Graders will meet from 2-3:30 p.m. Students are welcome to attend one or both days of the workshops at their designated age group time. There is no registration necessary to attend the workshops. If a child is unable to attend either workshop, he/she is still welcome to participate in the contest.
