Waukon baseball just shy of first NEIC win in extra innings during winless week

The Waukon baseball team came up shy of a win in four games this past week, having its best opportunity slip away in extra innings. That opportunity came early in the week, as the baseball Tribe had a Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) doubleheader at Charles City swept away Tuesday, June 6 by scores of 9-2 and 7-6 in nine innings. The remainder of the week resulted in much less of an opportunity, as Waukon fell to Turkey Valley, 15-3 in six innings, at home Wednesday, June 7 before suffering a similar fate, 11-0 in five frames, at Decorah Friday, June 9.

Holding a season record of 2-8, including a yet winless mark of 0-5 in NEIC play, the Indians were next scheduled to play at Oelwein Monday, June 12 before being scheduled to host Osage Tuesday, June 13, Class 2A second-rated New Hampton Wednesday, June 14 and Crestwood Friday, June 16. A busy following week at home begins with the Indians hosting Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 19 in a change from the original schedule due to a broken water pipe that forced the Indians to play their originally scheduled home doubleheader with the Go-Hawks at Waverly earlier this season. The Tribe will then remain at home to host Starmont Wednesday, June 21, Charles City Friday, June 23 and their own home Jeff Houg Tournament Saturday, June 24.
