The Waukon softball team had an initially busy week lightened up a bit early on in the week before ultimately ending it with a fourth victory of the season in dramatic fashion. The Indians had a Monday, June 12 Northeast Iowa Conference match-up at Crestwood postponed to Friday, June 23 before falling in back-to-back contests, 10-3 at home to North Fayette Valley Tuesday, June 13 and 14-4 in five innings at Waverly-Shell Rock Wednesday, June 14. The week culminated with a 7-6 home triumph over Osage Thursday, June 15 that happened in comeback fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Holding a 4-14 season record that includes a 1-7 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians will have that Crestwood postponement make for an even busier week this week. The softball Tribe was scheduled to host Charles City Monday, June 19, play a doubleheader at Decorah Wednesday, June 21, host a doubleheader with Oelwein Thursday, June 22 and now make up that June 13 game at Crestwood Friday, June 23 before playing in the Decorah Tournament Saturday, June 24. The Indians will then wrap up their regular season with a Tuesday, June 27 doubleheader at New Hampton followed by another twinbill at home against Crestwood Thursday, June 29 before opening postseason tournament play Wednesday, July 5 at New Hampton. Further details of the Tribe’s postseason appear in a shaded box on this same page in the print and e-edition of The Standard.
