Maureen Keenan

Maureen C.  Keenan, 77, of Waukon died Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon surrounded by her six children. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Mark Osterhaus and Fr. Bernard Grady officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 1 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. scripture service.

Maureen Catherine Grady was born April 11, 1940 in rural Monona, the daughter of Francis and Lorraine (Kricke) Grady. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona and graduated from MFL High School in Monona in 1958. Maureen worked as a waitress at the Model Café, where she met Lawrence.

November 4, 1961 she married Lawrence Keenan at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona. Together throughout their marriage Maureen and Lawrence worked hard to raise six children and run a successful trucking company. Following his death, Maureen moved her family into Waukon, where she did daycare for many years. After completing her daycare career, she worked as a dietary aide for the Good Samaritan Center before retiring. She enjoyed volunteering for St. Vincent's and the St. Patrick Catholic School lunch program.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Maureen enjoyed sewing, quilting, working crossword puzzles, playing cards with her Southcrest family and coloring adult coloring books. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye men’s basketball fan. Maureen also enjoyed spending time and visiting with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Joyce (Bob) Schorg of Waukon, Joe Keenan of Waukon, Jeff Keenan of Minneapolis, MN, Jerry (Jess) Keenan of Waukon, Janet (Gerry) Henning of Wyanet, IL and Jennifer (Michael) Swann of Solon; 12 grandchildren, Tyler Schorg, Meenah and Eryn Keenan, Will, Laurel, Josh and Nate Keenan, Dannette and Dacia Henning, Deanna (Josh) Novy, and Lincoln and Lauryn Swann; one great-grandson, Calvin Novy; one grand-pet, Nakita; three sisters, Caroline Drahn, Sharon Meisner and Mary (Gordon) Krambeer; one brother, Bill (Carol) Grady; and two sisters-in-law, Ludy

Grady and Sandy Grady. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence, who died in 1982; and four brothers: Bob, Ron, Donnie and Jim Grady.

Maureen was also honored to share her life with Lawrence's family: Leo (Kathleen) Keenan, James (Sandra) Keenan and Margaret (Russ) O'Donnell, along with several other surviving relatives. She is preceded by Lawrence's brothers, Albert and Patrick; and his two sisters, Dorothy Manning and Rita Berry.

Honorary casketbearers are Maureen's grandchildren. Casketbearers are Joe, Jeff and Jerry Keenan, Gerry Henning, Michael Swann, Bob Schorg and Ray Barker.
