Several area producers compete in Iowa State Fair Holstein Dairy Show
Top dairies competed for honors in the Holstein Dairy Cattle show judged Friday, August 11 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. Several Holstein exhibitors from Allamakee County and the surrounding local area participated in the show, bringing home some high honors.
Z-Breeze Holsteins of Posvtille brought home the highest honors for Allamakee County producers, placing second in the Spring Yearling Heifer: March 1-May 31, 2016 class with Nu-wave Applejack Allie, 3/2/2016. Z-Breeze Holsteins also placed 10th in the Senior Two Year Old Cow: September 1, 2014-February 28, 2015 class with Z-Breeze Sanchez Cecilia, 10/1/2014, and placed 20th in the Fall Heifer Calf: September 1-November 30, 2016 class with Z-Breeze Leverage Bardo, 9/5/2016.
Henkeseen Holsteins of Luana claimed the top area result with a win in the Senior Three Year Old Cow: September 1, 2013-February 28, 2014 class with Henkeseen White Zinfandel, 9/3/2013. Henkeseen Holsteins also finished fourth in the Senior Two Year Old Cow: September 1, 2014-February 28, 2015 class with Henkeseen Daine MC Diamond, 1/8/2015; seventh in the Fall Yearling Heifer (not in milk): September 1-November 30, 2015 class with Henkeseen Kingboy Wisdom, 9/1/2015; and fifth in both the Junior Three Year Old Cow: March 1-August 31, 2014 class, with Henkes-Brook ATW Dawson, 3/3/2014, and in the Cow Five Years Old: September 1, 2011-August 31, 2012 class, with Henkeseen Wind Reagan, 10/18/2011. The Henkeseen dairy also placed second in the Best Three Head competition and fourth in the Best Four Head competition.
Hanson Hilltop Farms LLC of Waukon placed 16th in the Winter Heifer Calf: December 1, 2016-February 28, 2017 class with Hanson Hilltop Pinkmn Oryan, 12/1/2016; ninth in the Spring Yearling Heifer: March 1-May 31, 2016 class with Hanson Hilltop Dresser Mole, 3/1/2016; and 13th in the Winter Yearling Heifer: December 1, 2015-February 29, 2016 class with Allgibbs Mogul Fascia, 12/2/2015.
In the Winter Yearling Heifer: December 1, 2015-February 29, 2016 class, Palmer Farms of Waukon placed 10th with Palmcrest Kingboy Boots, 12/3/2015 and 12th with Palmcrest Kingboy Briar, 12/24/2015.
Wedo-Ehr Cattle of Monona placed 10th in the Spring Heifer Calf: March 1-May 31, 2017 class with Wedo-Ehr Absolute Barbie-Red, 3/6/2017.
Hope and Tanner Morrison of Peterson, MN exhibited the Grand Champion Female. Farnear Holsteins of Farley exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Female and was also named Champion Premier Exhibitor and Champion Premier Breeder. Rick Demmer of Peosta received an Honorable Mention in the Grand Champion Class. Demmer was also awarded Reserve Champion Premier Exhibitor honors, and Hawkeye Holstein of Ashton was awarded Reserve Champion Premier Breeder honors at the event.
The Premier Breeder Award is given to the competitor who earns the most points for animals bred and exhibited by the entrant or others during the day's show. The Premier Exhibitor Award is given to the exhibitor who accumulates the most points based upon the day's placings.
