Ladies 14kt white and rose gold antique style diamond necklace to be given away at VMH Auxiliary and Elliott Jeweler’s 13th Annual Women’s Health Day September 26

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital, together with Elliott Jewelers of Waukon, will be hosting the 13th annual Women’s Health Day wellness event and salad luncheon Tuesday, September 26 at the Waukon Reception and Banquet Center. All ages are invited to attend this educational event, beginning at 11 a.m. with a wellness fair offering a variety of free health tests and information, and a salad luncheon and program held from Noon to 1 p.m.

The theme for this year’s event is “Hats off to Good Health.” Featured speakers for the Women’s Health Day program will include Antoinette “Toni” Thompson, N.P., Veterans Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Provider, who is also a former fire fighter and professional body builder. She will present “Aches, Pains and Movement.” Amy Robinson, PT, Rehab Director at the hospital, will demonstrate “Exercises You can Do Anywhere,” and Steven Breitenfield, the hospital’s Speech Therapist, will present “Improving Memory Through Diet and Exercise.” Amanda Leiran, R.T., Radiology Supervisor, will also present the advantages of the hospital’s new 3D Mammography machine, which is the first in northeast Iowa.

The doors will open for this event at 11 a.m., with the luncheon and program speakers beginning at Noon. Those able to take a longer lunch break may enjoy the free health testing and vendors available from 11 a.m. to Noon and again following the luncheon program. To honor one-hour lunch breaks, participants are also invited to attend just the program and luncheon, which will be held to just one hour.

Free wellness testing will include blood pressure testing, blood sugar diabetes testing, mini-stress tests, oxygen saturation testing and carbon monoxide testing. Again this year, the Laboratory Department of Veterans Memorial Hospital will perform community wellness testing right on site. Anyone interested in ordering any of these wellness screenings, including a lipid panel, fasting glucose, vitamin D, TSH, hemogram, hemoglobin or HgbA1c, are asked to FAST for 12 hours prior to the event.

The full wellness package is available for just $45 or other options are also available to choose from. An order form will be filled out, payment made and blood drawn, all at the event for anyone interested. The Lab staff will be on site for this testing and will then run the screens back at the hospital and mail the results out within five business days.

Information on breast cancer awareness, nutrition, smoking cessation, strength training, incontinence therapy, Hands-Only CPR training, colonoscopies, surgery services and “Sitting Is the New Smoking” information will be available. Free massages and reflexology will be offered by Shannen Mezera of Veterans Memorial Hospital and Gregg Jones Muscular Therapy Center. Flu shots will also be offered by VMH Community and Home Care for $25, based on availability.

Other providers offering information at the luncheon will include the Mayo Health System-Waukon Clinic, Gundersen Health System Waukon Clinic, NICC, The Waukon Wellness Center, Allamakee ISU Extension, Whitney Sleep Diagnostics, SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program), Good Samaritan Society, Northgate Care Center, Waukon Dental, Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health, and Helping Services of NE Iowa.

The cost of the Women’s Health Day event is $15 per person. For that fee, all those attending will receive a goodie bag filled with coupons, samples and general health information, in addition to the luncheon, health testing and program. Everyone purchasing a ticket will be entered into a drawing for a Ladies’ 14kt white and rose gold antique style pendant containing 30 round brilliant cut diamonds and five baguette cut diamonds, on a 14kt 18” Franco style neck chain. The total weight is .36ct.  (retail price $1000) compliments of Elliott Jewelers of Waukon. In addition, many more door prizes will be given away at the event.

Tickets are on sale now at Veterans Memorial Hospital and Elliott Jewelers. The proceeds from this event will be used to help purchase the new digital 3D mammography machine at Veterans Memorial Hospital, which will be the first one of its kind in northeast Iowa.
