Funeral services were held Monday, October 2 at the Waukon High School gymnasium with Pastor Bill Odermann officiating. The family asked that anyone attending the services Monday wear orange and black to honor Dave’s loyalty to the Waukon Indians. Memorials may be made to the Allamakee Scholarship Fund Inc., P.O. Box 144, Waukon, IA 52172 to help establish a scholarship in memory of Dave.

David Lee Schoeberlein was born July 30, 1958 in Fort Dodge, the son of Donald and Viola (Andersen) Schoeberlein. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, both in Humboldt. Dave graduated from Humboldt High School in 1977 and graduated from University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where he received his teaching and coaching degrees.

July 11, 1981, he married Janet Peters at First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. Dave and Janet lived in Havelock-Plover and Danville before moving to Waukon in the summer of 1985.

Dave was a loyal and dedicated person to everyone he had contact with and in everything he did. His number-one priority was always his family; being a husband, dad, son and grandpa were his greatest joys in life. Whatever he did, Dave did it right; whether that was tailgating, golfing, wedding dancing or loving on his treasured grandbabies. He added humor and well-placed sarcasm to every situation. Dave touched many lives through his coaching and teaching career, and he absolutely knew the impact that devoting your days to service had. His family so wishes he could be here to see the positive ripples that he has created throughout his family and community.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, of Waukon; his two daughters, Jill (Charlie) Folsom of  Waukee and Jenna (Ben) Pressley of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Camille, JJ and Lydia Folsom, and Quinn Pressley; his mother, Viola Schoeberlein of Humboldt; a brother, Darrel (Becky) Schoeberlein of Hudson; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Peters of Humboldt; two sisters-in-law, Pam (Don) McClannahan of Storm Lake and Cheryl Peters of Dakota City; a brother-in-law, Jim (Angie) Peters of Gilmore City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald; and his father-in-law, Dean Peters.

Honorary casketbearers were all of Dave’s players and fellow coaches. Casketbearers were Joe Griffith, Tim Bulman, Jerry Keenan, Mike Shupe, Bob Wasson, Dave Herold, Don Kuennen and Andy Sires.
