Elaine Bahr

Elaine M. Bahr, 90, of Waukon died Tuesday, October 10, 2017 surrounded by her family at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, October 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Elaine Marie Bahr was born April 9, 1927 in New Albin, the daughter of Donald and Mary (Rouster) Thomson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin and graduated from New Albin High School. August 13, 1946, she married Donald Bahr in Waukon. They farmed together in Ludlow Township for many years.

Her motto was faith, family and friends; she was a devoted farmwife, mother and grandmother. Elaine loved spending time with her family; they would have big meals on Sundays and she always took food out to the guys while they were in the field and would make sure they had enough to eat.

Elaine also followed her grandchildren’s activities. She and Donald were always willing to help their family, neighbors and friends whenever somebody needed something. Her faith was very important to her and she was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children: Linda (Bill) Cook, David (Rhonda) Bahr and Dani (Janice) Bahr, all of Waukon; her daughter-in-law, Irene Bahr of Waukon; 10 grandchildren: Ron, Michael and Chad Adam, Jennifer Mahoney, Jessica Board and Don, Brian, Bryce, Cody and Brianna Bahr; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Darling of New Albin; a brother-in-law, Elton Darling of New Albin; and a sister-in-law, Elsa Hager of Waukon. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, who died in 2005; a son, Dennis “Borgie”; and two sisters: Elizabeth Knight and Donna Darling.

Honorary casketbearers were Elaine's granddaughters. Casketbearers were her grandsons.
