James Burrett

James “Jim” Roy Burrett, age 71, of St. Cloud, MN died Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Veterans Affairs Hospice Center in St. Cloud, MN following a yearlong battle with lung cancer. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, October 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids, MN, where Rev. Ralph Zimmerman officiated, and burial was held Monday, October 16 at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN. Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, MN assisted the family with arrangements.

Jim was born August 15, 1946 to Robert and Andree (Tatro) Burrett in West Union. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1965. Jim proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1965-1967, serving 14 months in Vietnam.

April 11, 1970, he was united in marriage to Mary K. Hennen in Morris, MN. Together they raised three children: Jeffery James, Krista Kathryn and Kara Elizabeth. Jim worked in construction as a carpenter until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed keeping busy with handyman work, fishing, playing cribbage, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. Jim was very hard working, thoughtful, loving and kind. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary, of St. Cloud; his children, Jeffrey (Tammy Gehrke) Burrett of St. Cloud, MN, Krista (Jason) Rainer of Sauk Rapids, MN and Kara (Jeremy) Lupinek of Oconomowoc, WI; eight grandchildren: Gunnar, Skylar and Lily Burrett, Kaeleigh, Kaety and Kaelin Rainer, and Spencer and Lauren Lupinek; ten siblings: Mary (Gordy) Lubahn of Byron, MN, Robbie (Brenda) Burrett of Waterville, Pam (Kenny) Berding of Walker, MN, Terry (Donnie) Johnson of Waukon, Don Burrett of Atlanta, GA, Nancy (Gary) Welper of Laramie, WY, Dawn (special friend Larry Feaker) Blocker of La Porte City, Penny (Dave) Wheeler of Postville, Keith (Margaret) Burrett of Waukon and Wayne Burrett of Waukon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Ray and Kathleen Hennen; and a brother-in-law, Dick Blocker.
