Candidate forum planned prior to upcoming City Election

Public invited to meet the candidates for Mayor and City Council October 30

The public is invited to meet the candidates at a nonpartisan forum Monday, October 30 at 7 p.m. in the Waukon High School Library. The forum will be sponsored by Waukon Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Waukon High School government classes.

City of Waukon mayoral candidates planning to attend include Darryl Brink, Rick Herman, Dwight Jones, Pat Stone and Steve Wiedner. Council candidates include Ward No. 1 candidate Gayle Decker; Ward No. 3 candidates Arvid Hatlan, Don Steffens and Kevin Welsh; and at-large candidate Ben Rausch.

Candidates will each give a brief introduction of their backgrounds, qualifications and reasons for seeking office. Each will then respond to written questions from the audience which will be screened by a committee of the sponsors and asked by a moderator.

Those attending are asked to use the west parking lot at the school and enter through the west doors of the high school. Signage will direct attendees to the library.

ABSENTEE VOTING
Absentee voting is underway at the Allamakee County Auditor’s office during office hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. up until 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7. Registered voters also may request an absentee ballot by sending in a ballot request form by Friday, November 3 to the Auditor’s office at 110 Allamakee St, Waukon, IA 52172.  Election day is Tuesday, November 7.
