STATEBOUND! Kee cross country girls run to first State Meet team berth since 1996

First time in two decades ... Members of the Kee girls cross country team display their State Qualifier banner following their second-place team finish at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet hosted at Solon Thursday, October 19. That second-place Lady Hawk finish marked the first time since the 1996 season that the Kee girls cross country program has qualified as an entire team for the season grand finale. A goal was achieved and a resurrection 20 years in the making was accomplished as the Kee girls cross country team reached every high school cross country team’s ultimate destination by qualifying as an entire team for the State Cross Country Meet for the first time since the Lady Hawks were represented as an entire team at the season grand finale in 1996. The Kee girls accomplished that goal with a second-place finish at their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet held in Solon Thursday, October 19, with that second-place finish coming to the two-time Class 1A defending State Champion Central Elkader team the Hawks had beaten in seven of eight previous meets this season.

The Kee cross country girls are scheduled to compete in the Class 1A girls race at 2 p.m. this Saturday, October 28 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course about seven miles north of Fort Dodge. The season grand finale is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the Class 4A girls race, with the Class 4A boys slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. That same schedule trend, every half hour, is planned to play out for Class 3A, 2A and then 1A girls followed by their respective boys races, with the Class 1A Awards Ceremony slated to be held after the Class 1A boys race, at approximately 3 p.m. Fellow Allamakee County distance dandies, the Waukon girls cross country team, will also be competing that day in the Class 2A race scheduled for 1 p.m., the Lady Indians making their first team State Meet appearance since the 2006 season.
