Margaret Lorraine Cummings Kolsrud

Margaret Lorraine Cummings Kolsrud, 89, of Waukon died Monday, November 13, 2017 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 18 at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ronald Pederson officiating. Burial was at East Paint Creek Synod Cemetery, both in rural Waterville.

Margaret Lorraine Knudtson Cummings Kolsrud was born July 23, 1928 in rural Waterville, the daughter of Herbert Carl and Luella Selma Mildred (Schmieden) Knudtson. She was baptized and confirmed at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, where she remained a lifelong member, and she graduated from Waterville High School.

Lorraine married Harold Lloyd Cummings and they lived in Waterloo for two years; they had two children, Harold and Renee. Following their divorce, Lorraine moved back to Waterville where she raised her children and lived with her mother and sister. She worked for a car dealership in Waukon and then went to work for 3M Manufacturing in Prairie du Chien, WI for nine years. Lorraine farmed for many years in Paint Creek Township in Allamakee County where she milked cows and raised livestock. When she was farming, she married Floyd N. Kolsrud and they later divorced.

Lorraine devoted a lot of her time to caring for her son, Harold, who developed MS while he was in college. She enjoyed music, dancing, word puzzles, gardening, going to auctions and sales, and attending community events.

Survivors include her daughter, Renee (Richard) Russell of Marquette; three grandchildren: Richard Jr. (Amy) Russell of Madison, WI, Robert (Kimberly) Russell of Aberdeen, SD and Ronald Russell of Minneapolis, MN; and five great-grandchildren: Brennan, Hadley, Ethan, Ellis and Owen. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Harold, who died in 1992; and a sister, Harriet Knudtson.

Honorary casketbearers were Jerry Mathis, Sigurd Ness, Wayne Schmieden, Dr. David Schwartz, Arlyn "Butch" Fossum and Bob Thompson. Casketbearers are Richard Jr., Robert and Ronald Russell, Kent and Kenneth McCormick, and Pat Reisinger.
