Waukon wrestling team falls to Decorah, places second at Central Elkader

The Waukon wrestling team returned from its holiday break with a late week slate of competition this past week, wrestling a home dual meet before competing in a weekend tournament. The mat Indians hosted Decorah in that home dual Thursday, January 4, falling to the visiting Vikings by a 67-9 final result before wrestling to a runner-up team finish at the Central Elkader Tournament Saturday, January 6 behind the strength of four individual tournament championships.

Falling to a 6-6 dual meet record overall this season, 1-4 in Northeast Iowa Conference competition, the Indians are scheduled to wrestle at Fillmore Central in Minnesota this Thursday, January 11 before wrestling at the Decorah Tournament Saturday, January 13, with the Indian junior varsity slated to compete at the Independence JV Tournament that same Saturday. The wrestling Tribe will then wrap up the home portion of its schedule for this season as well as its Northeast Iowa Conference dual meet season, hosting both Charles City and Class 3A eighth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, January 18, before competing at the Riceville Tournament Saturday, January 20.
