Robey Memorial Library to celebrate World Read Aloud Day February 1

Robey Memorial Library in Waukon plans to celebrate World Read Aloud Day Thursday, February 1 with events from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. In observance of World Read Aloud Day, people from all around the world read aloud together to celebrate and advocate literacy.

Reading aloud has been found to be beneficial to all, from children to adults. According to the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, “Reading aloud to children every day puts them almost a year ahead of children who do not receive daily read aloud time, regardless of parental income, education level or cultural background.”

Area residents are invited to celebrate World Read Aloud Day with Robey Memorial Library through any of the following activities taking place February 1:
• Sign up to read aloud during a 15-minute session: Participants can choose their own book or select a title from the library's special display.
• Attend the special Story Time session from 10:30-11 a.m.
• Listen to books read aloud throughout the day.
• Take a Story Walk: Participants can explore the library as they read “Mind Your Manners, B. B. Wolf” by Judy Sierra.

Robey Memorial Library also offers the following literacy and reading programs throughout the year:
• Tuesday Story Times, 10:30-11 a.m., including Story Time with Ross the second Tuesday of the month.
