Waukon sophomore finishes 15th at season grand finale

History was made when the Waukon bowling teams competed in their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Oneota Lanes in Decorah Tuesday, February 13, as Waukon boys bowling sophomore Matt Rozzell bowled his way to the first-ever State Meet qualification in the two-year history of the program. Rozzell claimed the fifth and final at-large qualifying spot of non-championship Class 1A performances from across the state of Iowa.

Rozzell led the Indians to a third-place team finish, bowling individual games of 229 and 215 for a 444 total score that also placed him third among 42 competitors in the individual competition. The Charles City pair of sophomore Noah Reams and senior Kaleb Ross each bowled totals of 467 to top the boys State Qualifying Meet field and were awarded co-championship honors, instead of one being a champion and the other being an at-large qualifier, thus, opening the door for Rozzell to claim the fifth-best non-championship at-large total and advancement to the State Bowling Tournament held Monday, February 19 in Waterloo.
