Kee baseball team’s four wins in five games include sweep of final league trio to wrap up second-place Upper Iowa Conference finish

The Kee baseball team posted four wins in five games this past week to clinch a second-place finish in the final Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) standings. The Hawks started the week with a sweep of their final three UIC games, including wins of 12-1 in six innings and 13-0 in five innings at MFL/MarMac Monday, June 25 and 11-2 at North Fayette Valley Wednesday, June 27 in the second half of a June 18 doubleheader postponed by stormy weather. Kee then fell at Class 3A Crestwood Thursday, June 28 by a 7-5 count before finishing the week with an 8-5 non-conference win over Dunkerton Friday, June 29 in a game played at Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

The Hawks’ 16-8 overall record includes a final Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) mark of 12-2 that ended up placing them second in the final UIC standings behind the only league team to beat them this year, Class 1A eighth-rated South Winneshiek, who won the UIC crown with a 13-1 record.

The Hawks are scheduled to wrap up their regular season with three games later this week, playing in a triangular date at Riceville against the host squad and West Fork Thursday, July 5 before completing their regular season Friday, July 6 at home against New Hampton. Kee will then open postseason tournament play Tuesday, July 10 at home against Starmont, with further details of that postseason road published in the print edition and e-edition of The Standard.
