Waukon girls basketball team handles Wapsie Valley, 54-33; Battles with other single-loss NEIC teams looming this week

The Waukon girls basketball team ended up being able to play only one of its two scheduled games this past week, a Friday, January 18 game at Oelwein having to be postponed due to winter weather and ending up being rescheduled for Saturday, February 2. In the one game the Lady Indians did get to play in, they traveled to Upper Iowa University in Fayette to match up with Wapsie Valley in a non-conference make-up game from a December 1 date with Don Bosco that was canceled due to winter weather, the Indians making the most of that trip with a 54-33 win.

The win improves the Indians’ season record to a 12-1 overall mark and leaves them with a 6-1 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play that keeps them just behind the NEIC lead of 7-1 records currently held by Waverly-Shell Rock and Crestwood. The Lady Indians were next scheduled to now play a pivotal week in those Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) standings when they battle those other two single-loss NEIC teams, hosting Crestwood Tuesday, January 22 before playing at Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, January 25. The basketball Tribe will then host back-to-back nights of basketball, including Spring Grove, MN Monday, January 28 and Prairie du Chien, WI Tuesday, January 29, before also hosting Charles City Friday, February 1 and then playing at Oelwein Saturday, February 2 in the game rescheduled from Friday, January 18.
