Alan was born May 11, 1948 to Oscar and Annie (Donnell) Coleman in Easington Colliery, Durham, England. After one year of being in England, they settled in Innisfail, Alberta, Canada.

Alan attended River Glen School in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. At age 15, Alan went to work for Thompson Drilling working in the oil fields in numerous places in Canada, which then brought him to the United States in 1965. Alan received many awards while working for Thompson Drilling. Throughout the years he worked for an oil company in Utah, Nevada, Colorado and ending with him in Wyoming in 1972. In 1984 Alan became a log hauler for Dick Waddington, then John and Jeff Regan Trucking in 1987, in Newcastle, WY.

July 20, 1992 Alan was united in marriage with Sandy Kregel in Custer, SD. Three children were born to this union. In 1994 he moved to Monona and worked for Prairie Ag, Bituma for ten years and then retired in January 2020 from Mid Iowa Grain as a Grain and Barge Inspector, where he worked the last 15 years. Growing up he liked knitting, playing trucks and building roads with his friends. Alan loved taking things apart, tinkering with toys and was a slight pyromaniac.

According to his sisters, he was their mom’s favorite and he could never do “NO” wrong. He enjoyed camping and going to stock car races when the children were younger. In his later years, Alan enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles and spending time with his family. Alan was a “Jack of all Trades”, and he enjoyed making people laugh, loved all dogs and adored his grandchildren.  His sidekick was his dog, Smokey.
