Harpers Ferry Boosters, Inc. hosts Firecracker 5K Run/Walk

After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, the Firecracker 5K Run/Walk sponsored by Harpers Ferry Boosters, Inc. was back with great excitement and enthusiasm Saturday, July 3 in Harpers Ferry. When Kaylee Bachman finished singing the final note of the National Anthem, the crowd was eager to get the 2021 Firecracker 5K started. The town was packed with people celebrating the Fourth of July and many participated in the race or lined the route to cheer on the participants.

The Firecracker 5K is the major fundraiser for Harpers Ferry Boosters, Inc., a non-profit organization that supports many events and activities in Harpers Ferry and Allamakee County. The Boosters contribute funds to high school senior scholarships, provide money to the Allamakee County Food Shelf, the Harpers Ferry Fire Department, Harpers Ferry Fireflies Granny Basketball Team, and Kids Halloween and Christmas Parties.  The Boosters also work on the gardens in Tillinghast Park and this past year purchased new Christmas lights and decorations for the park. Music in the Park is sponsored by the Boosters throughout the summer.

A total of 188 entrants crossed the finish line for the 5K event, with Talan Lafrentz leading the way as the overall winner with a time of 18:29. Kelly Hilsabeck, with a time of 19:42, was the overall female winner of the event.

The Gold, Bronze and Silver medal winners for each age category are listed below in the bordered frame. If anyone did not stay to pick up their award, they are reminded to contact Earl at 563-586-2974.

After the awards ceremony, a Superhero Children’s Race took place on the grounds of St. Ann’s-St. Joseph’s Church and each participant received a special medal and a round of applause from the fans.
