Waukon High School alum Jason Piittmann to be inducted into Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Jason Piittmann ...

The 43rd enshrinement into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) Hall of Fame will take place in Madison, WI at the Marriott West April 2 of this year, and among this year’s 12 newly inducted members will be Waukon High School 1988 graduate Jason Piittmann.

Piittmann, the son of Gerald and Diane Piittmann of Waukon, has spent the last 22 years at Kewaskum High School in Kewaskum, WI, assuming the head football coaching reins in 2003 and compiling a 16-year head coaching record of 140 wins against just 39 losses. Not straying too far from his own high school alma mater’s mascot namesake, Piittmann guided the Kewaskum Indians to 10 consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins during his tenure.

Under Piittmann’s guidance, Kewaskum football won or shared eight conference championships in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference and the East Central Conference. His teams qualified for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Play-Offs for 13 consecutive years beginning in 2005.

They advanced to Level-4 of the WIAA play-offs in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Four other teams advanced to Level-3 of the play-offs during the 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016 seasons. Overall, Piittmann’s teams went 23-13 in play-off games.

Following his graduation from Waukon High School in 1988, Piittmann graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. He also earned a Master of Education degree in 2009 from Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI. He taught and coached at three different schools in Iowa from 1994 to 1999.

In 1999 Piittmann moved to Kewaskum and coached multiple sports, including junior varsity football. In 1999 Kewaskum made its first WIAA State Play-Off appearance since the school’s 1983 State Runner-Up team. In 2001 Piittmann also assumed the role of athletic director at Kewaskum High School.

From 2000 to 2002, Piittmann was the varsity defensive coordinator under then head coach Tim Rohlinger. The Indians won the Eastern Wisconsin Conference championship in 2001, the first for the school since 1983. They also made the play-offs each year from 2000 to 2002, with Piittmann then taking over the head coaching duties.

In 2016 Piittmann was selected to be on the coaching staff for the North WFCA All-Star Game. He has been involved with the WFCA in various capacities over the years. He was honored by the WFCA as a District Coach of the Year three times (2005, 2008, 2011), and as a Region Coach of the Year once (2011). He was also selected as a Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week in 2008.

Piittmann says he coached many outstanding young men during his tenure and is proud of what they have become in their personal and professional lives.

Piittmann married his wife, Jamie, in 2001. They have three children, Anna, Lia and Dane.

Scheduled for a reception from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m., the April 2 WFCA Hall of Fame Banquet in Madison, WI is open to the public but is limited to 1,000 tickets. Piittmann says that anyone who might be interested in purchasing a ticket for the banquet may contact him at jpiittmann@kewaskumschools.org.
