Judy Diersen-Ashbacher

Judy L. Diersen-Ashbacher, 79, of Lansing passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, WI. Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 14 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing with Pastor Todd Krueger officiating. Burial of ashes will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Grove, MN. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon handled arrangements.

Judy Lucille Diersen- Ashbacher was born the 10th child in a family of 12, in Spring Grove, MN to Alphy and Benora (Harstad) Solberg. Though she was born July 3, 1942, she was a firecracker nonetheless.

After graduating from Spring Grove High School in 1960, Judy worked at the high school as a librarian for a few years. She married Bernell Diersen; they later divorced. She worked for many years at the Lansing Button Factory and Northern Engraving.

October 6, 2000, Judy married Sylvan Ashbacher and they enjoyed many happy years together, traveling and loving the time spent with each other. Sylvan passed away October 2, 2007.

Judy loved to talk. She’d make daily phone calls to family and friends to keep in touch and to make sure she kept up with their lives. She always said that every night she would pray for the ones that needed her prayers. Family was so important to her.

Every year, Judy planned the Solberg Reunion and made sure there was delicious potato krub for everyone and that there was enough of it to send home with family. She was a good cook and baker and loved to try new recipes and shared with neighbors.

Judy was active with the VFW Auxiliary in Lansing, serving as past president. She always talked about how she and other members would go downtown and sell poppies for the VFW. Throughout the years, Judy always kept a positive attitude. She twice fought the battle with cancer and won; the third and last time she could not beat it. She always said she was not afraid to die and knew she was going to see the Lord and the rest of her family that went before her. Judy, we love and miss you, until we meet again.

Judy is survived by her son, Anthony “Tony” Diersen of Lansing; a daughter, Ann Breiland Johnson of Apple Valley, MN, and her children: Joshua (Sarah), Alyssa and Caleb; two brothers: David (Eileen) Solberg of Hiawatha and Donald Solberg of Hokah, MN; her sisters-in-law: Carrie Solberg of Decorah, Carol Solberg of St. Peter, MN and Judy Solberg of Davenport; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her favorite companion, Bandit.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Lyla (Kenneth) Smith, Naomi Solberg, Alden Solberg, Charles (Pat) Solberg, Helen (Bud) Fink, Stanley Solberg, Margaret (Orville) Flaten, Paul Solberg and Rev. Robert Solberg.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Crossing Rivers Health and Hospice for the fantastic job they did in caring for Judy.

Honorary urnbearers are Julie Brooks, Todd Solberg and Tony Diersen. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
