Softball Hawks advance on to play at and against Central City Wednesday night

An undefeated past week saw the Kee softball team wrap up its regular season with championship flair and also begin its postseason in a triumphant manner. Having the fate of a second consecutive Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) championship season in their own hands, the Lady Hawks took full advantage of that opportunity with sweeps of a pair of home UIC doubleheaders, locking them in a second consecutive sharing of the Upper Iowa Conference season championship with Turkey Valley, as both squads compiled a 14-2 UIC record for this season’s honors.

Those crown-clinching sweeps included two wins over West Central Monday, June 27 by scores of 15-4 in six innings and 11-1 in five frames before the Lady Hawks did likewise to South Winneshiek Wednesday, June 29 by final results of 13-1 in four innings and 12-2 in five frames to wrap up an overall regular season record of 16-14. Following that championship-clinching regular season finale, the Kee diamond dwellers continued their winning ways as they opened Class 1A Regional Tournament play, defeating another Upper Iowa Conference opponent with an 8-3 triumph over Central Elkader at home Friday, July 1.

That opening-round postseason win advances the Lady Hawks to the quarterfinal round of their Class 1A Region 7 Tournament, which takes place Wednesday, July 6 at and against Central City. Further details about those postseason possibilities are printed in the Wednesday, July 6, 2022 print edition and e-edition Sports pages.
