Shirley Hesse

Shirley G. Hesse, 89, of Waukon died Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church Wednesday. Martin – Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Shirley Gladys Hesse was born January 24, 1933 in Waukon, the daughter of Daniel and Gladys (Bublitz) Adney. She attended school in Waukon. December 20, 1950, she married Ronald Hesse at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon. They farmed together in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties, where they milked cows and raised pigs, chickens and crops. In 2012, Shirley and Ron moved into Waukon.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, working in her garden, and keeping her house very clean. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Ronald, of Waukon; her children, Nancy (David) Clark of Tijeras, NM and Brad (Joy) Hesse of Alleman; her two granddaughters, Hannah and Haley Hesse; a step-sister, Marge Hesse of Decorah; and a step-brother, Richard (Louise) Lang of Ely. She is preceded in death her parents and two sons, Regi and Dennis Hesse.
