Allamakee County will be well represented both on the sidelines and on the playing field for the 2022 Iowa Shrine Bowl to be played this Saturday, July 23 in the UNI-Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Waukon football head coach Chad Beermann has been selected as an assistant coach for the game’s North Squad, being one of eight coaches assisting North Squad head coach Steve Milder of West Central.

Sharing that Shrine Bowl experience with his head coach will be Waukon graduated senior linebacker/offensive back Lincoln Snitker, who has been selected to play for the North Squad and will wear number 18 on the field. Joining that Waukon contingency will be Kee High School graduated senior lineman Alex Goetzinger, who will wear number 76 for the North Squad.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Shrine Bowl, and event organizers have also reached out to former Shrine Bowl participants to take part in a 50th Anniversary celebration during this year’s Shrine Bowl week. The 50th Anniversary Iowa Shrine Bowl Banquet will be held Friday, July 22, celebrating 50 years of Iowa Shrine Bowl history and honoring this year’s athletes and coaches.

This year’s Shrine Bowl football game will begin at 4 p.m. this Saturday. Television coverage is available on Mediacom’s MC22 (channels 22 or 822). Ticket availability and information can be found at https://iowashrinebowl.org/.

A tradition since 1972, the Iowa Shrine Bowl is an all-star football game recognizing senior athletes and coaches across the state of Iowa. Funds raised by the event benefit Shriners’ Children’s Hospital and its mission to provide the best pediatric care anywhere, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. The services offered by the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital include care for orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and many others.
