The competition schedule for the Waukon volleyball team began to expand this past week, as the net Tribe opened and closed the week with multi-team events and put three of those five matches in the win column. The volleyball Indians opened the week with a home triangular event Monday, August 29 that saw them sweep both Riceville and Kee in two straight sets each, the Tribe first disposing of the Wildcats by scores of 25-21 and 25-20 before also taking care of the visiting Hawks by wider margins of 25-7 and 25-13.

The Indians then played in their first weekend tournament of the season, traveling to New Hampton Saturday, September 3 to end up playing three more matches and putting just one of those in the win column to have their tournament day ended after the pool play rounds. The net Tribe’s lone victory at New Hampton came against St. Ansgar by scores of 12-21, 21-11 and 15-11 but the Indians fell to a pair of Class 2A top-10 rated teams that both ended up playing for the tournament title, including fifth-rated Denver, 12-21 and 9-21, and eighth-rated Sumner-Fredericksburg, 12-21 and 8-21.

The Indians were next scheduled to open Northeast Iowa Conference play Tuesday, September 6 with a home match against Class 4A third-rated Waverly-Shell Rock before competing in the Crestwood Tournament Saturday, September 10. The net Tribe will then play at Charles City Tuesday, September 13 before hosting its own home invitational tournament Saturday, September 17.
