The Allamakee Community School District added 13 new educators to its staff at the start of the 2022-2023 school year. Over the next few weeks, the Allamakee Community Education Association, in cooperation with The Standard newspaper, is introducing these new school district additions to the public through an article series. This week’s installment in the series will feature Elementary Talented & Gifted (TAG) Teacher Stacy Miner and Dillon Daniel, At-Risk Interventionist/Student Success Coordinator for Waukon High School.

Stacy Miner joined the Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) staff this year as the Elementary Talented & Gifted (TAG) Teacher. She serves students at both East and West Elementary Schools. Stacy is enjoying her time in the district so far. “I feel like I have a ton of support from a lot of people across the entire district, everyone is willing to help, which makes the transition to a new district much easier.” Stacy and her family live between Postville and Waukon, so taking a position at ACSD made a lot of sense. She also wanted to work in the same district that her children attend. “When asking around, there were several people who had great things to say about ACSD, so I made the move to Waukon both for me and my children,” she shared. As a teacher, Stacy really enjoys being able to support students in their growth and learning. “As a parent, I truly know it takes a village to raise a child, and as a teacher, I love being part of so many families’ villages.” She is currently working on her TAG endorsement through Morningside University and also holds a math and secondary certification from Wartburg College and a masters with special education endorsement from Upper Iowa University. Prior to joining the ACSD, Stacy taught secondary math for 12 years. In her free time, Stacy likes to run and spend time with her four daughters. Her husband farms, so a lot of their family’s time is spent on the farm.

Dillon Daniel is the new At-Risk Interventionist/Student Success Coordinator for Waukon High School. After teaching high school science the previous five years, Dillon is excited for what this different role has in store for him. “Connecting with the students on a personal level is one of my favorite things about teaching,” he said. “This position gives me more of an opportunity to do so than a typical classroom.” He, along with his wife and two kids, moved to Waukon in May. Although he is “new” to the community, he does feel right at home as his wife, the former Abie Mellick, is a graduate of the Allamakee Community School District. He also added, “The members of the community and ACSD have made my family and I feel so welcomed. It just feels like home and a great place to raise a family.” With eight weeks of school already complete, Dillon is looking forward to continuing to get to know his students and colleagues. “I have already built so many meaningful relationships with the students and teachers,” he said. “I am looking forward to continuing to become more familiar with this great community.” Dillon is originally from the town of Oskaloosa. After high school, he attended Coe College where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and a Secondary Education minor. Outside of school, Dillon enjoys being with his family, coaching, watching sports, biking and hiking all the beautiful trails and parks that northeast Iowa has to offer.
