Lynn Bjerke

Lynn Ordell Bjerke, 68, of West Union, formerly of Waukon, died January 19, 2023 at Gundersen Palmer Hospital surrounded by his family, after suffering a stroke. The family has decided to not hold a funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Lynn was born April 9, 1954 to Ordell and Virginia (Grotegut) Bjerke. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1972. After attending Calmar Community College and earning a certificate in masonry construction, he transitioned to farming.

May 25, 1975 he married Kathy Duvel. To this union three children were born. They later divorced. After farming for several years, he transitioned back into bricklaying, working for local masonry companies before eventually becoming a truck driver for H&H Food Services in West Union until it closed. He continued working as a truck driver for other various companies until a serious illness forced him to take early retirement.

This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it allowed him to spend more time doing the things that he truly enjoyed, such as fishing, hunting morels, golfing with his sons, playing in euchre tournaments with his friend, Willie, and putting together a myriad of puzzles. He especially enjoyed raising cockatiels with his son, Adam.

Lynn is survived by his three children, Amanda (Andy) Kerner of Postville, and Mikael and Adam Bjerke, both of West Union; his grandchildren, Ryan Guese and Mitchell Guese (Audry Fahey), both of Postville; his siblings, Karen (Randy) Loeb of Waukon and Bob (Cheryl) Bjerke of Decorah; his brother-in-law, Loren Beneke; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Lois Beneke.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation service of West Union is assisting the family with arrangements.
