Senior Jakob Regan wins second consecutive NEIC crown, ties school record for career wins

The Waukon boys wrestling team wrapped up its regular season this past week with some final dual and tournament action in preparation for its upcoming postseason tournament journey. The mat Tribe first won three of four duals at the MFL/MarMac Scramble Tuesday, January 24, falling to Class 1A top-five rated Nashua-Plainfield, 57-20, before sweeping its remaining three opponents by final results of 70-9 over Clayton Ridge, 57-18 over Postville and 42-39 in comeback fashion over the host MFL/MarMac squad.

The wrestling Indians then hosted the annual Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) Tournament Saturday, January 28, finishing fourth in that six-team field behind a pair of NEIC runner-up finishes by senior Corbyn Palmer at 195 pounds and junior 285-pounder Isaac Ericson, and a second consecutive NEIC championship won by senior 126-pounder Jakob Regan, whose championship win also tied him for the most career wins in the history of the Waukon wrestling program, pulling him even with the 125 career victories racked up by 1999 Waukon High School graduate Paul Rea.

The Indians will now have more than a week to prepare for their Class 2A District Tournament which is scheduled to take place Saturday, February 11 at Decorah.
