Jakob Regan earns third qualification for season grand finale, becomes all-time wins leader; Corbyn Palmer, Isaac Ericson qualify as District runners-up

The Waukon boys wrestling team continued to show its progress as a program by accomplishing some feats not seen within the program since the late 1990s at its Class 2A District 3 Tournament held at Decorah High School Saturday, February 11. Among those feats is the qualification by three wrestlers for this year’s State Tournament, marking the first time since the 1998 season that the Waukon wrestling team has qualified that many wrestlers for the season grand finale and the first time since 2006 that the Waukon wrestling program has qualified more than just one wrestler for that final wrestling showcase.

Forming that renewed multi-wrestler State Tournament representation this season are senior 126-pounder Jakob Regan, who was the mat Tribe’s lone District champion and earned his third qualification while providing even more history relating to that late 1990s era in doing so; senior 195-pounder Corbyn Palmer, who qualified for the first time after transferring from Decorah this season and finishing as a District runner-up; and junior 285-pounder Isaac Ericson, who earned a District runner-up finish and his first-ever State Tournament qualification in competing in just his first year of high school wrestling.

In addition to those top-two State-qualifying finishes, the Indians also got a trio of other finishes within the top four of their respective weight classes. Senior 170-pounder Cullen Dickson and junior 106-pounder Skyler Dugan each finished fourth, and sophomore Holten Palmer wrestled to a third-place finish at 152 pounds, not getting the opportunity to wrestleback any further after his semifinals assailant lost in the finals to claim the 152-pound runner-up qualifying spot. Two of eight remaining Indians competing on the day each recorded one match win before having their tournament ended, with all of those combined Indian efforts compiling 87 team points for the Tribe to claim a sixth-place team finish in the eight-team District Tournament field.
