Waukon baseball team splits with Charles City for busy week’s lone win after falling to Decorah and Sumner-Fredericksburg, all in home doubleheaders

The Waukon baseball team battled through a nearly winless week in a busy schedule of three doubleheaders played over a course of four evenings, waiting until the final three innings of its final game to secure its lone win of the week. The Tribe first fell at home to Decorah Tuesday, May 30 by scores of 14-10 and 14-9 before doing likewise at home Thursday, June 1 against Sumner-Fredericksburg by scores of 16-8 and 11-0 in six innings. The Indians wrapped up their week with a split of a home doubleheader with Charles City Friday, June 2, falling in game one by a 4-1 count before bouncing back from a similar deficit in the nightcap to post a 6-4 win.

Now holding a 4-7 season record that includes a mark of 2-4 in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians were next scheduled for another busy week with consecutive road doubleheaders at Turkey Valley Monday, June 5 and at Crestwood Tuesday, June 6 before hosting Edgewood-Colesburg in JV/varsity action Thursday, June 8 and then playing another varsity doubleheader at New Hampton Friday, June 9. The diamond Tribe will then host Crestwood for a doubleheader Monday, June 12, play JV/Varsity contests at Dubuque Senior, Tuesday, June 13, and at Osage, Thursday, June 15, and then host Waverly-Shell Rock for a varsity doubleheader Friday, June 16.
