Waukon baseball team plays to within just a few runs of an undefeated busy week with single-run losses at Crestwood and in split with #10 New Hampton

The Waukon baseball team played one of its busiest schedules of this season, playing seven games in a span of five nights and coming up just three runs shy of recording an undefeated week. Putting four of those seven games in the win column, the Indians opened the week with a doubleheader sweep at Turkey Valley Monday, June 5 by scores of 6-0 and 10-0 in six innings before being tripped up by single-run losses of 5-4 in each game of another road doubleheader at Crestwood Tuesday, June 6. The diamond Tribe returned to the win column with a 10-4 home victory over Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, June 8 before playing to a split of another road doubleheader at Class 2A 10th-rated New Hampton Friday, June 9, allowing the first game to get away in the bottom of the seventh inning by just a 3-2 final margin before rallying back for a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

Now holding an 8-10 season record that includes a mark of 3-7 in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play, the Indians were next scheduled to host Crestwood for a NEIC doubleheader Monday, June 12, play JV/Varsity contests at Dubuque Senior, Tuesday, June 13, and at Osage, Thursday, June 15, and then host Waverly-Shell Rock for another NEIC varsity doubleheader Friday, June 16. The Tribe will then host New Hampton Tuesday, June 20 in another NEIC double-dip, play two games at Oelwein Thursday, June 22 and then play another NEIC twinbill at Decorah Friday, June 23.
