Waukon softball team book-ends seven-game week with pair of wins

The Waukon softball team battled through a busy week that resulted in two of seven games being put in the win column. One of those victories came right away to open the week, a 15-5 triumph in five innings at Central Elkader Monday, June 5 before the Lady Indians came up a bit short in a home doubleheader with New Hampton Tuesday, June 6 by scores of 6-3 and 2-1. The softball Tribe wrapped up the week falling at home to Charles City, 7-2, Friday, June 9 and in two of three games at the Riceville Tournament Saturday, June 10, including losses of 13-0 to Class 2A 14th-rated Osage and 13-5 to Riceville, but picking up a 9-5 win over St. Ansgar.

Now holding an 8-7 season record that includes a 2-4 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play, the Lady Indians were next scheduled to play a NEIC doubleheader at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, June 13 before playing at Crestwood Wednesday, June 14 and then competing at the West Delaware Tournament Friday and Saturday, June 16-17. The diamond Tribe will then host North Fayette Valley Monday, June 19 and Decorah for a varsity doubleheader Tuesday, June 20 before playing at New Hampton Friday, June 23 and then three games in the Decorah Tournament Saturday, June 24.
