Harpers Ferry Fireflies finish as State Tournament Runner-Up ...

The Harpers Ferry Fireflies traveled to West Des Moines Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11 for the Granny Basketball State Tournament. The Fireflies won five of six games they played in the tournament, with their lone loss coming in the championship game to make the Fireflies this year’s State Tournament Runner-Up.

During day one of Pool Play, the Fireflies played three games and won all three, including victories of 59-45 over the Late Bloomers, 38-34 over the Indy Pacemakers and 58-36 over the Classic Chassis. Advancing to Sunday’s single-elimination tournament, the Fireflies opened that bracketed round of play with a 39-37 triumph over the Lady Red Birds before recording a 68-49 win over the Kansas Sunflowers to advance to the tournament’s championship game. In that title match, the Fireflies took on the Cedar Rapids Sizzlers and fell by a final score of 40-33 to end up with a second-place tournament finish this year. The Fireflies now have a 14-1 season record and will enter the National Granny Basketball Tournament scheduled for July 14-16 in Decorah.
