Diane Dawn Roney was born June 25, 1958 in Postville, the daughter of Walter James and Dorothy Jean (Barr) Gelo. Dawn was raised on the family farm in the Forest Mills area of rural Postville, where she enjoyed riding her pony and taking long bicycle rides, several times all the way to Elgin to see her sister, Linda. She was baptized at First Baptist Church in Waukon and graduated from John R. Mott High School in Postville in 1976.

July 30, 1976, she married Dale Roney at First Baptist Church in Waukon. To this union, Kari Amber and Austin Nicholas were born.

Dawn worked for the Heimer’s Super Valu Grocery Store deli and the C-Mart gas station, both in Waukon, Northern Engraving in Lansing until it closed, and at Kwik Star in Waukon. Dawn retired in 2015 to become a full-time grandma helping to raise and spoil two grandsons.

She was a member of First Baptist Church. Dawn enjoyed collecting old coins, being a full-time grandma to her grandsons, loved her dogs, loved a good thunderstorm, and always had a smile for you.
