Hawks will begin Eight-Player State Play-Offs this Friday at Central City

Wrapping up its regular season playing a non-district game at home Friday, October 13 against an Edgewood-Colesburg (Ed-Co) team having a very similar season - both teams sporting 5-2 records overall and sitting pretty firmly in third place in their respective districts with marks of 4-2, the Kee football team found itself in a shoot-out in a game that had no play-off implications for either team but certainly put on a show with a combined 120 points scored and nearly 1,000 yards of total offense. Whether any “Friday the 13th” superstitions or persuasions played a role or not, the game saw the Hawks give up their highest point total of the season but also scored the most points the visiting Vikings have given up all season in the 70-50 Kee defeat.

PLAY-OFFS ON THE ROAD
Having avoided the lone scenario that would have eliminated them from automatic State Play-Off contention - a 12-point Turkey Valley win over Riceville, the Hawks remained in third place in their Eight-Player District 3 final standings, the final automatic play-off clinching spot in that district. However, with Turkey Valley’s 14-8 win over Riceville this past Friday night, the Trojans earned themselves one of the two wild card play-off qualifications, making it four teams from District 3 to make this season’s State Play-Off field.

As a third-place finisher in District 3 with a 5-3 season record, Kee has been matched up with Central City, the first-place team from Eight-Player District 5, in the opening round of the Eight-Player State Play-Offs this Friday, October 20, beginning at 7 p.m. in Central City. The Wildcats bring a 7-1 season record into the Eight-Player play-off scenario, averaging nearly 51 points per game while giving up just over 17 points per game. Central City averages more than 343 yards of total offense per game that includes nearly 260 yards per game on the ground and 40 of their 53 offensive touchdowns. The Wildcats have also racked up 66 tackles for loss and 28 quarterback sacks while gathering in 10 fumble recoveries and eight interceptions.
