Holiday Parade in Waukon scheduled for Saturday; New route for this year

This year’s Holiday Parade in Waukon has been scheduled for Saturday, December 9, beginning at 6 p.m. Anyone from the general public, business community, or any school or community organization is invited to decorate any vehicle, float, side-by-side or other creative avenue with lights and participate in the parade as it travels through Waukon by a different route this year.

Registered entries will be eligible to win a prize in one of the following three categories: Most Effective Use of Lights; Best Religious Theme; or Best Decorated Animal Entry. It is asked that no parade entries use a live Santa Claus, as he will be making his own appearance in this year’s parade.

The parade route will be different this year, starting at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds and traveling from the rear entrance of the Fairgrounds for one block south on First Street NE to 7th Avenue NE and then west to Allamakee Street, where the parade will then head south to the stoplight intersection in downtown Waukon before turning right and heading west up Main Street before ending at 2nd Street NW/SW. Line-up for parade entries will begin at 5 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.

Participants are invited to register their float by Friday, December 1 by contacting Linda Mahr at 563-794-1663. Questions may also be answered by calling that number.
