For its 2023-2024 campaign, the Waukon boys basketball team will look to benefit from the return of six players with varsity letterwinning experience from a season ago. Those half dozen veterans are coming back from a squad that posted a 3-18 season record last winter and graduated just a pair of seniors from its roster.

Those six returning letterwinners will be headlined by four seniors, including Jacob Courtney, Kole McCormick, Jack O’Neill and Mason Wasson. Junior Jaxon Brinkman and sophomore Colton O’Neill help complete that list of experienced veterans who will set the pace for this season’s squad that has 23 young men currently in consideration in this season’s early-going.

“A lot of these guys saw a lot of game action last season,” Waukon boys basketball head coach Jed Hemann said. “This gives us a good foundation to start from this season with a good knowledge base of what we want to do as a team and who we want to be. We need these guys to be vocal as leaders, as well as lead by example.”

The Indians were originally scheduled to get their season started with a Monday, November 27 home game with MFL/MarMac but had that game postponed until January 8 due to the Bulldogs’ extended football season this fall. The bucket Tribe will now get its 2023-2024 campaign underway this Friday, December 8 at home against Crestwood before playing at New Hampton Tuesday, December 12 and at Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, December 15.
