The Waukon girls basketball team had just two games on its schedule this past week and played to a split of those two contests as the end of this winter’s regular season schedule comes into sight. The Lady Indians opened the week playing host to North Fayette Valley Tuesday, January 30 in a non-conference battle that ended up as a 59-48 Waukon win before the bucket Tribe closed out this past week traveling to Decorah Friday, February 2 and being handed a 62-37 defeat in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play.

The Indians now hold a 10-8 season record that includes a 4-5 mark in NEIC play that currently has them sitting in third place in the Northeast Iowa Conference standings behind NEIC-undefeated Waverly-Shell Rock and single-loss Decorah. The Lady Indians were next slated to finish out their regular season schedule with back-to-back nights of home competition, hosting La Crescent, MN Monday, February 5 before doing likewise with Charles City Tuesday, February 6. The Waukon girls are then scheduled to open Class 3A Regional Tournament play at home this Saturday, February 10 against Oelwein, beginning at 7 p.m., with further details of the Tribe’s postseason possibilities available in the Wednesday, February 7, 2024 edition of The Standard.
