Another game, another piece of history for Kee boys basketball team; 75-38 home win over Turkey Valley sets new single-season win mark

It was another game and another bit of program history for the Kee boys basketball team this past week, as the Hawks wrapped up their regular season with a win at Turkey Valley Tuesday, February 5. That 75-38 triumph in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play not only furthered Kee’s first-ever UIC season championship and first conference title since 1983, at a 15-1 UIC record, but the win also improved the Hawks’ season record to 19-2, breaking the program’s single-season record for wins that stood at 18 within an 18-3 season mark during the 1978-1979 Kee campaign that included a 10-0 championship result in the Upper Mississippi Conference.

Wrapping up their regular season at a 19-2 season record that includes their 15-1 mark that reigned supreme over this season’s Upper Iowa Conference, the Hawks opened their Class 1A district tournament trail at home Monday, February 12 against Tripoli, a 65-11 opening-round triumph that advanced the Hawks to a Thursday, February 15 home date with Starmont, beginning at 7 p.m. Details of those two games will appear in the February 21 edition of The Standard, and a win Thursday will advance the Hawks of the hardcourt to the Class 1A District 12 finals Tuesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. at Waukon High School for the right to play in the Saturday, February 24 Substate Championship game at Waterloo East High School, beginning at 7 p.m.
