Damian Copp

Damian D. Copp, 44, of Waukon died suddenly Friday, February 23, 2024, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 29 at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon.

Damian Dennis Copp was born December 14, 1979, in Waverly, the son of Dennis and Janet (Warnke) Copp. Damian grew up in Hawkeye and later lived in West Union. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and attended Hawkeye Elementary School. In 1998, he graduated from North Fayette High School in West Union and was involved with 4-H and FFA, serving as officers and on several committees. Damian went to NICC in Calmar for welding classes.

In 2005, he moved to Waukon. October 3, 2009, he married Cindy White at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Damian worked for Dura in West Union, Midwest Irrigation in Dubuque and Reilly Construction in Ossian, where he was a Class A Operator and a mechanic and received the nickname “Beep Beep”. He was currently working for Pro Earth in West Union.

Damian was a member of the Mississippi Valley Sportsman’s Club in Lansing, loved doing anything outdoors, particularly hunting and camping, and collected guns. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and doing farm work, especially driving tractors. Damian loved animals and telling a good story. He was a very hard worker and would drop everything to help out others. Damian loved spending time with his friends and family, specifically his two sons.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of Waukon; his two sons, Kayden and Kashton Copp, both at home; his mother, Janet (Lee Smith) Copp of West Union; a sister, Sarah (Scott) Carlson of Sioux Falls, SD: a brother, Devin Copp of Hawkeye; his grandmother, Virginia Wietgrefe of Rapid City, SD; his mother-in-law, Brenda White of Waukon; Cindy’s grandmother, Betty White of Waukon; two brothers-in-law, Shannon (Sheila) White of Belleville, KS and Craig White of Bird City, KS; and a sister-in-law, Stacy Larsen of Waukon. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis, who died in 2019; his grandparents; and a brother-in-law, Chad White.

Honorary casketbearers are Kevin Hosom, Michael Howe, Kymn Huck, Mark Peterson, Chase Sorum and Greg Wilwert. Casketbearers are Josh Kolbriger, Chad Oakland, Matt Copp, Craig Gefaller, Shannon and Craig White, and Cody Warnke.
