Allamakee Music Boosters celebrating Music in Our Schools Month with special stage performances scheduled for April 1

In celebration of March being Music in Our Schools Appreciation Month, the Allamakee Music Boosters, with the help of Parents Supporting Students and Teachers (PSST), are bringing OPERA Iowa to the Waukon area. The Allamakee Music Boosters appreciate all of the hard work and dedication of the music department staff in the Allamakee Community School District.

Monday, April 1, the day will begin with elementary students having the opportunity to watch a performance of “Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing,” composed by Malcolm Fox. This is a hilarious story of a serpent in the circus who desires to be more than a snake; he wants to sing!

High school students will then participate in a 60-90 minute Masterclass seminar where the students will have the opportunity to interact with the professional performers to receive vocal tips and insights in preparation for the upcoming vocal contest season. The day will end with OPERA Iowa performing Gretry and Borths’ Beauty and the Beast at 7 p.m. This fairy tale has a unique twist and will surely open everyone’s eyes to the magic of a live on-stage performance.

The Beauty and the Beast performance is open to everyone of all ages in the surrounding communities and will be performed at the Waukon Middle School Auditorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and all tickets will be sold at the door. See the advertisement on Page 9 of this edition of The Standard for additional information about the April 1 production.
