Jason Gearhart announces candidacy for Iowa House of Representatives District 64

Jason Gearhart of Strawberry Point has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for Iowa House of Representatives District 64. The district encompasses all of Allamakee County and Clayton County, as well as Concord Township in Dubuque County.

Gearhart was born and raised in northeast Iowa. He and his wife Kayela, a fourth grade teacher at Starmont Elementary School, reside in Strawberry Point with their two children, Jayden and Kendyl, both students at Starmont Middle School. In his free time, Gearhart enjoys coaching youth basketball and has had the privilege of coaching the Starmont Middle School girls basketball team the past two seasons.

In 2004, Gearhart enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served five years as a military police officer and investigator stationed at Camp Page and Camp Casey, South Korea, and at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After his service, he moved back home to northeast Iowa. Gearhart has recently served on the Strawberry Point Chamber of Commerce and is currently serving on the Strawberry Point City Council and the Starmont School Board. He is proud of his record of fighting for fiscal responsibility and common-sense policy.

“Like many of you, I am the product of the public education system. I share your concerns around declining student population, teacher shortages, and school consolidations,” Gearhart said. “I look forward to taking the conversations to the Statehouse and working towards solutions for the great people of House District 64 and the people of Iowa.”

As the son of a fourth-generation farmer, Gearhart says his top priorities will be supporting the state’s farmers, protecting taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars, and strengthening rural education systems.

“Anne Osmundson has done a tremendous job representing the district the past six years,” Gearhart said. “I hope to continue her legacy by representing you to the best of my ability and making sure the voices of District 64 are heard loud and clear in Des Moines.”
