The annual “Family Wellness Fair” will be held this Wednesday, May 8 from 3:30-6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH) and Clinic in Waukon. The “Family Wellness Fair” is a community-wide event offering families and individuals of all ages a night of entertainment and education about local resources available to them, plus many free health testing opportunities. This family event is free and open to all members of the community of any age.

This year all visitors are welcome to enter the fair through the Veterans Memorial Hospital main entrance, the hospital clinic entrance or the Gundersen Clinic entrance, allowing for more parking options.

New this year, Hemoglobin testing will be offered with immediate results. Also the Rehabilitation Department will be performing functional movement screens which involve seven different movements or tests that are done to predict if a person is at risk of musculoskeletal dysfunctions and injuries. The seven movements are meant to test overall body mobility, stability, coordination, and postural control, with the score determining risk of injury.

Gundersen Medical Clinic will also be hosting a large, inflatable, walk-through colon that will show the signs and risks of colon cancer. For the second year, visitors to the fair can participate in the “Be the Match” stem cell sampling which will be provided by the hospital’s Laboratory.

Entertainment will be provided, plus over 40 exhibitors will have tables on display providing demonstrations, games and crafts for the entire family. Veterans Memorial Hospital staff will be on hand to perform a number of free health tests. Plus, over 100 door prizes will be given away throughout the evening. All visitors to the “Family Wellness Fair” are eligible to win just by signing in at the registration table as they enter the fair.

Everyone will also be given a ‘keys to health’ form at registration to have signed at each booth as they travel the route, and if all signatures are collected, they will win a first aid kit. Everyone in the area communities is welcome to attend this free event, sponsored by Veterans Memorial Hospital.
