Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH) in Waukon was notified that Peoples State Bank in Waukon recently made a generous contribution to the Waukon Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Association with funds the staff themselves generated through their Friday “Jeans Days” and other various raffles.
Each Friday throughout the year, employees of Peoples State Bank are welcome to wear jeans to work, then make a contribution into the “Jeans Day Fund.” At the end of the year, the staff then decide on a non-profit organization or local cause to donate their funds to. This year it was decided to award the Waukon EMS Association with these funds.
Officials at Peoples State Bank state, “The donation reflects our team’s commitment to giving back to our community and making a positive impact together.”
This donation was gladly welcomed by the Waukon EMS Association, which is continually raising funds for needed supplies for the three ambulances that serve the Waukon community. These ambulances are often called on to transfer patients to other health care facilities, which can sometimes be many hours away.
Cheryl Livingston, Secretary/Treasurer of the Waukon EMS Association states, “We appreciate the support received from our community. Years ago we created Waukon EMS Association to allow for the local EMS providers to have an active role in selecting equipment we use to care for our patients.
Offering this involvement helps with retention of our skilled providers. The community support also allows us to offer unique training opportunities locally for EMS providers. Waukon EMS Association is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization accepting donations at any time.”
