Thomas “Tom” J. Hodina, 77, of Waukon passed away peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. There will be a private graveside service at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids at a later date. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Thomas James Hodina was born June 22, 1948, in Cedar Rapids to parents Lester and Mary (Regan) Hodina. Tom grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School. Shortly after graduation, Tom joined the Navy and served four years on a submarine. After his time in the Navy, Tom moved to Colorado and spent over 30 years of his working career as the maintenance supervisor at Coors Brewery in Golden, CO.
Tom decided to retire in Allamakee County because he enjoyed spending his summer breaks here as a kid. He reconnected with family on the Regan side and enjoyed evening visits on the patio. He spent his time at home working on projects in his shop, cooking late night suppers, and watching the Denver Broncos. In recent years, Tom enjoyed a lot of his time making many friends at Green Valley Getaway in Waukon where he acquired the nickname ‘Four O’clock Tom’ and shared in many rounds of Coors Light beer. When you would call and ask for Tom in the evenings at Green Valley Getaway, no one knew Tom Hodina, but if you asked for ‘Four O’clock Tom’, they could find him right away.
Tom leaves behind a few close cousins and his many friends that were like family to him. Tom shared his time, talents, and wisdom with a few special friends: Carson Lonning, Devin Bieber, and Eva Whalen.
Tom is preceded in death by his mother, Mary; his father, Lester; his stepmother. Teresa; and a brother, Tim.
